Abel brings over 9 years of experience as Job Captain and in design to BRIC Architecture. He has traveled to numerous countries to give him a better perspective on architectural design. He is passionate about composition and arrangement and the problem-solving aspects of the profession. Abel was part of Pickathon Tree-Line Stage design team that won the Portland AIA jury award in 2015. On his free time, he can be found playing an Iranian instrument called Tar, walking, and contemplating the miracle of life.

Alec has over a decade of designing in a variety of offices across the U.S. and overseas, recently returned from several years in Germany. In addition to his passion for public interest architecture, Alec is committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainability. He is a well-rounded Job Captain, comfortable with all phases of design, the creation of design documents, and coordination between the trades.

Andrew has over 7 years of experience in Job Captain and Project Management roles on numerous school projects. Andrew believes in the fundamental role of education and draws on his background as a former teacher and school administrator to engage communities in conversations about learning and the design of educational spaces.
Utilizing a diverse range of experience and talent in architectural practice, Brett develops creative concepts and practical solutions that earn client satisfaction. With expertise in the full scope of projects from the earliest stages of the design process through construction documentation, Brett lends immense value to the team. Recent high school remodels and a new elementary school have been the benefited from Brett’s guidance and expertise.

Solving confounding constructability problems is one of many hard-earned abilities Cathy has developed over her 17 years of experience in educational architecture. Her expansive range of technical knowledge gives BRIC’s projects an endurance to be envied. Cathy strongly holds to the values of both design and craft as important complementary elements in a product that best serves students, teachers, staff and the community at large.
Teaching at a boarding school for underprivileged kids in post-apartheid South Africa was a turning point in Christie’s career, that ultimately led her to work on schools at BRIC Architecture, Inc. She observed remarkable and positive changes in children after being given a clean and safe place to learn. The indelible mark left on her memory impassioned Christie as an education architect. Built upon a foundation of more than 15 years in a variety of architectural building typologies, Christie’s background makes her an outstanding project designer and team member.

Dan brings nearly 30 years of experience in educational design to his role as Principal at BRIC Architecture. With a knack for both big-picture and detail-oriented thinking, Dan deftly brings together diverse communities to realize a shared vision for their project. He is passionate about weaving complex design elements into a coherent process, successfully delivering projects to the communities he serves.

A talented design leader, David believes in partnership and a highly collaborative approach to design, “when you’re doing good work, elevating the quality of design requires the ability to pull together around a common vision in such a way that ideas build upon one another to achieve something extraordinary, and often unexpected.” Over his 22 year career, David has won numerous design awards from the Society of Registered Architects and from the Oregon and New York State Chapters of the AIA, and was the design leader for several practice-building initiatives including XQ: The Super School Project, a competition to rethink the American high school.
Ed has worked in the architecture and design industry since 2001, is an integral member of design teams from the early conceptual phase to the delivery of an array of complex architectural and interiors projects. His driving force on educational projects is the belief that communities and students thrive in proper infrastructure. He stays connected with the local community by participating in his neighborhood association and as an advisory council member for Design Museum PDX. Ed pushes the agenda for better learning environments and support of educators and students.

Elisa is an educational planner with over 17 years of experience. She has served as a lead planner on numerous planning projects, including educational specifications, programming, education master planning, and school construction feasibility studies. Elisa’s strong working knowledge of school building research and design trends are complemented by her mindful approach to listening and responding to the client’s feedback to ensure a smooth process.
As a recent graduate with a Bachelor in Design and Project Management, Erika joined BRIC to help facilitate and expedite projects. She is passionate about designing with a greater purpose in mind and believes students should feel safe and happy in their environment. When she’s not in the office, you can find her hiking, reading in the park, trying new foods and exploring the city of Portland.

A skilled marketer who loves to tell the BRIC story, Jennifer draws from more than 15 years in the industry to develop business development strategies and marketing initiatives for BRIC. A fervent spirit of advocacy compels her to help clients ensure a safe, investigative, healthy, and positive learning environment for k-12 learners, educators, and their communities. She masterfully fosters existing client relationships while forging new connections, as she is not only a good “teller” but also an exceptional listener. Jennifer is a local and national participant in the Society for Marketing Professional Services.

As a lead Project manager, Julie leverages her 18 years of experience in the K-12 to complete a project from start to finish, on time and on budget. She has continued to build lasting relationships with district representatives and retained her passion for education, which is fueled by the positive responses from the children and staff experiencing their new facilities for the first time. Julie brings a level of dedication that is unparalleled and always focused on delivering the best possible outcome for each project that she manages.

Karina has over 20 years of experience and has managed over $1 billion in educational projects throughout her career. Her belief that education shapes the future of this world, drives Karina to ensure that teaching and learning objectives remain the team’s focus throughout each project. She is actively engaged in the national dialogue on the intersection between pedagogy and design innovation. As principal, she brings an innate ability to inspire educational planning, build community engagement and design efforts that exceed expectations of clients and users.
Kelsy is an experienced designer with a Master’s Degree from Portland State University. Her passion for social equity is paralleled with thoughtful consideration of the sociological and climate impacts in the architectural field. This focus lends to the design of schools that engage multiple learning styles in a healthy environment. When she's not in the office she can be found outdoors hiking or at home making art.
As a licensed Architect, Ken brings nearly 40 years of technical expertise to the BRIC family. Detail oriented by nature, Ken enjoys working on building envelope design, detailing, complex problem solving and consultant coordination. He appreciates witnessing positive advancements in school design, which have fundamental impacts on how children experience and process learning. He feels lucky to be a stakeholder in the process and seeing positive impacts to the community and to each student’s success.X

Kim Moffat has 34 years of experience in Accounting and Office Administration in the A/E/C industry. A licensed architect since 1989, Nancy strives to create spaces for learning at all ages, having worked in educational architecture for over 23 years. She finds that her interest grows as she witnesses the impact of the interior environment on her own children’s learning and well-being.
Associate | Graphics Manager Peter brings his graphic design creativities to his architecture degree from the University of Oregon. His knowledge is complemented by his aptitude with a multitude of computer software programs, allowing Peter to translate design concepts into visually realistic renderings realizing communities’ visions. Peter’s expertise includes 3D modeling, computer/hand renderings, architectural drafting, website design and social media branding for the projects and the firm.X

Rebecca has a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Design and Architectural History from New York University. Her professional life has afforded her opportunities to work as a Construction Manager for Marmol Radziner, a Program Director of the youth design-build organization Studio H, and as a Designer and Construction Administrator for K-12 school projects for the last several years. When not working with BRIC, Rebecca enjoys practicing carpentry, metalwork, and ceramics.

Robert’s passion for sustainable architecture is only rivaled by his dedication to the learner. Throughout his professional career, Robert has helped steer the development of educational architecture in the state of Oregon and Washington. His volunteer efforts touched the lives of thousands of students, setting them on a path of life-long learning and environmental stewardship. While mentoring students, he has discovered the need to change the educational program to encompass the building as a teaching tool and is currently working to develop this curriculum.
After working 20 years as an architect, Ron transitioned over to the technology sector and currently maintains BRIC’s computer network, conducting system audits of implemented technologies, and preserving information security. Outside of work, Ron enjoys being active in nature and does yoga, taekwondo, rock climbing, and sailing.
Rudy Schuver brings over 30 years of experience managing and coordinating projects in the Construction Document and Construction Administration phases. He has a keen eye for detail and enjoys the opportunity to collaborate with a group of people who are passionate about the challenges each project presents. Rudy’s goal for every project is to create a well-designed, well-built space that enriches the lives of the end users for years to come.

Scott Thorson grew up in Medford, OR and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon. After college, he spent four years with DLR Group in Portland, working on K-12 and Higher-Ed projects. Before joining BRIC Architecture, he worked for 6 years as a sound engineer at Portland Center Stage at The Armory. He has a passion for theatre and performing arts projects in schools.

Susan brings almost 50 years of comprehensive and technical knowledge to BRIC Architecture, Inc. An expert in educational building typology, Susan is responsible for preparing project specifications, performing quality control and quality assurance review of projects and providing team guidance for technical issues. She loves what she does and is passionate about seeing advancements in education being reflected in school design.

Thea is meticulous in handling the day-to-day intricacies of educational projects, from facility assessments to design and construction management over the course of nearly 20 years in architecture. Thea’s true passion is Interior Design where she skillfully designs interior spaces that enhance the overall project, from planning to material and furniture selections. This passion is fueled by the people she works with and creating relationships that extend past the design process and beyond project completion.

Tim has been working in architecture for over 10 years on a broad range of project types, including education, hospitality, civic/military, retail and workplace. Tim appreciates being part of a team with a shared vision to help create places for communities to gather and learn for years to come. He is eager to see school design continue to evolve- becoming more resilient, incorporating attributes of biophilic design, and providing healthier and more stimulating learning environments for students, staff, and communities.
Timothy is a recent graduate of Portland State University’s Master of Architecture program. His interest in architecture and design began in early childhood with a passion for drawing and constructing forts in the woods of Oregon. He gained experience and knowledge in construction by becoming an Ironworker, giving him a unique understanding of how conceptual design is translated into the built environment. Just embarking on his career as a design professional, he values creativity, sustainability, craft, and community. He is currently pursuing licensure. In his time away from work, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, taking in all the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

With more than 17 years of experience, Tonie has taken the lead as project manager on numerous high profile high school renovations and new building projects. She is passionate about empowering communities and providing opportunities to implement sustainable design features. As an Associate Principal, she enjoys the complexities and challenges these types of projects provide as well as the opportunity to serve and shape the local communities they serve.
Travis holds a Master of Architecture from Cornell University. As a recent graduate, Travis is involved in several projects in the schematic phase and is helping to write bond measures. He believes that schools create a framework to enrich students’ lives and should offer opportunities for active learning and connecting. When he’s not in the office, he can be found hiking, biking, and gardening.
